Bjarne Sløgedal - Biography

Bjarne Sløgedal (born 13/6 1927) Norwegian church musician, conductor and composer. He studied at the Music Conservatory in Oslo from 1945: Organ with Arild Sandvold, conducting with Øivin Fjeldstad and theory with Bjarne Brustad. He graduated in 1950 and continued his studies in organ, conducting, composition and improvisation at the Juilliard School of Music in New York. He has also studied with A. Heiller in Vienna and K. van Baren at the Music Conservatory in Den Haag. During the years 1951-96 he was organist in the Kristiansand Cathedral, Southern Norway.

Sløgedal is one of Norway's most active and highly respected church musicians, as organist, conductor and composer. He was the initiator of the Kristiansand Chuch Music Festival which has been arranged since 1971.
