Röyksopp up for four MTV Awards

The Norwegian electronica-duo Röyksopp has been nominated for no less than four awards at the MTV Europe Video Music Awards. Although they are up against some fierce competition, the self-proclaimed "hot new purveyors of Nordic electronic funk", couldn’t be happier.

Röyksopp

It has been an incredible year for Svein Berge and Torbjørn Brundtland aka Röyksopp. After receiving excellent reviews in all the ”right” magazines such as The Face, Ministry Magazine and Muzik in the UK for their debut album Melody A.M., they toured with bands like Basement Jaxx, Garbage and Orbital. So far the happy coulple have sold more than 60 000 copies in their native country alone, and over 200 000 copies world-wide - they now top it all off by being nominated for four MTV awards. The duo is by far the hottest electronica act Norway has ever produced, reaching an impressive no 9 spot in the British album charts earlier this fall.

Röyksopp are nominated in the following categories: Best New Act, Best Dance, Best Nordic Act and Best Video for the ”Remind Me” video. They are up against artist like Kylie Minogue, Moby, Shakira and Eminem and feel that in some of the categories their chances of winning are slim to none.

Well, never say never! Although Kylie and Moby are tough artists to beat, it’s the viewers who decide who wins by casting their votes on the Internet, and Röyksopp have loads of fans throughout Europe. So winning at least one award should be well within their reach.

But even if they should win, it’s not certain they will be able to accept their awards at the EMA’s, which will be held on November 14th in Barcelona. By that time Röyksopp will be touring with Moby, but they stated to ”Absolutt” they were hoping to be there. Four is the highest number of nominations this year and Röyksopp share that honour with artist like Eminem, Pink, Enrique Iglesias, Coldplay, Kylie Minogue og Shakira.
