We kick off the week with no less than three Live At The Office videos this Monday
It’s been a while since we have posted updates to our Live At The Office concert series, but now we’re making amends by publishing a batch of three varied videos featuring singer-songwriter Randi Tytingvåg, the Oslo String Quartet and bluegrass outfit Gammalgrass.
In September, Stavanger-based artist Randi Tytingvåg staged an intimate and well-received office concert at oil/gas tech firm Aibel in her home town. With a set-list comprised of such strong compositions as Impatience, Paper Tiger, Sit Yourself, Down, Future Song and Rat Race, backed by a strong crew made up of Vidar Schanche (guitars), Thomas Bang (bass) and Ståle Birkeland (drums/percussion), Tytingvåg put on a solid display, winning over the audience of office workers with uncanny stage presence.
Oslo String Quartet
In early October, the Oslo String Quartet visited well-known architect firm Snøhetta for an office concert that featured a highly varied repertoire: Dvorak’s Humoresque, Blacksmith's Reel (trad), Rolf Wallin’s Curiosity Cabinet, Alexander Rybak’s Eurovision-winning hit Fairytale as well as Neal Hefti’s The Kid From Red Bank. Watch as violinists Geir Inge Lotsberg and Liv Hilde Klokk, viola player Are Sandbakken and cellist Øystein Sonstad move virtually effortlessly through complex and varied arrangements of tunes not necessarily associated with a string quartet and in a venue that’s far from a standard concert hall.
Gammalgrass, a folk/bluegrassesque trio made up of Ola Kvernberg (violin/mandolin), Stian Carstensen (accordion/banjo/lapsteel/mandolin/vocals) and Ole Morten Vaagan (double bass) has a clear ambition: to highlight the similarities between Norwegian traditional Gammaldans folk music and American bluegrass tunes.
Gammalgrass’ office concert was held in late October in the town hall of Eidsvoll, multi-instrumentalist Stian Carstensen’s (of Farmers Market fame) home town. Watch as the spirited trio tears through a set-list that includes tunes Sally Goodin (trad.), Green Day’s Basket case, Jules Massenet’s Meditation and Ola Kvernberg’s own Olaslåtten.
‘Live At the Office’ is a live concert series presented by the Music Information Centre Norway and NRK, the national Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation. For a series of intimate concerts, MIC invites musicians to perform on an unlikely stage for a live concert; the office. Watch intimate video performances of your favorite Norwegian artist, recorded live at MIC’s Oslo office or in selected locations throughout the country.
Through MIC’s ‘Listen to Norway’ concert series, the monotonous office ambience is broken by a series of intimate concerts in which the artist sets up shop in between cubicles, photocopiers and stacks of paper and performs in front of a crowd of office workers that has their daily routine pleasantly interrupted by minimalist and stripped-down sets performed by some of Norway’s finest artists and performers.
