The negative sales trends on the domestic music market experienced during the summer months continue into the autumn.
The latest sales figures from the Association of Norwegian Record Distributors show that the domestic music market continues to shrink. The August sales figures are down 4 % compared to 2007. Sales of physical units are down 8% compared to last year while digital download sales grew with 58% in value.
Sales of singles are down 43% in value while DVD music releases are up 2% in value in July 2008.
So far in 2008, 5,1m physical units have been shifted, resulting in a total turnover of NOK 295m while digital downloads have generated a NOK 36m turnover. Overall, combined physical and digital sales are down 8% in total so far this year.
