2005 proved to be a banner year for domestic repertoire on the Norwegian market. The positive trends continue into 2006 with massive sales of Norwegian albums in January.
January saw 234 000 domestically produced albums sold on the home market, doubling the 2005 sales figures according to the latest statistics from the Association of Norwegian Record Distributors. The domestic percentage in January ended at 35%.
Overall sales figures for the year’s first month show that sales were up 11% in volume and down 8% in value compared to last year.
Album sales are down 5% in volume and 10+% in value compared to 2005.
Sales of singles are down 30% in volume and 28% in value in January 2006 compared to 2005.
Sales of DVD music are down 12% in volume and 19% in value.
January 2006 saw a total sale of 700 000 albums, 24 000 singles, 19 000 music DVDs and 134 000 downloaded tracks amounting to a turnover of NOK 45m ($6,6m/€5,5m).
