SOLID! - three of Norway's finest young jazz musicians will play at Blues Alley in Washington D.C. on April 29 as part of the 2007 Big Band Jam/ International Jazz Jam.
The organ trio was already in 2002 voted the best ‘Young Jazz Musicians’ for their inventive guitar/organ/drum format. Their music is based on American jazz of the 60’s, but with a contemporary European touch. It varies between hard swinging jazz to more open and subtle soundscapes.
SOLID! is Bjørn Vidar Solli (guitar), Håkon Mjåset Johansen (drums) and Daniel Formo (organ) and their repertoire mainly consists of Solli’s original compositions, for which he received a composition prize in France in 2005. The band has released two albums to great critical acclaim.
The International Jazz Jam hosts six European countries in a uniquely multicultural component of the Big Band Jam festival in Washington D.C. The festival organisers claim to present 'The biggest, baddest, broadest beat ever brought to Washington, D.C.
Following their US performance, the SOLID! crew heads to Asia for a gigs in Vietnam and China followed by two concerts at Stockholm's Glenn Miller Cafe.
