Phonogram sales on the Norwegian market continue to drop while domestic acts increase their market shares.
The latest sales figures from the Association of Norwegian Record Distributors show that a total of one million phonograms were sold on the Norwegian market in October. This is a reduction of 12% compared to last year. The total turnover was NOK 65m ($ 9,8m/€ 8,4m) – a reduction of 14% compared to October 2004.
Sales of domestic repertoire continues to grow, with a 6% increase in volume and 10% in value compared to last year. Sales of Norwegian albums have increased as much as 36% over the last year. So far in 2005, sales of Norwegian albums amount to a 35% stake of the market – a vast improvement when compared to sales figures in the late 90s/early 00s which were often as low as below 10%.
Sales of CD albums in October are down 14% in volume and 8% in value compared to 2004.
Sales of singles are down 38% in volume and 40% in value in October compared to last year.
Sales of DVD Music releases are up 66% in volume and 16% in value last month.
Total accumulated sales so far in 2005 are 8,7m albums, 417 000 singles and 206 000 Music DVDs amounting to a turnover of NOK 587 ($ 89m/€ 76m). This is a reduction of 11% in volume and 11% in value compared to 2004.
