MIC's Listen to Norway series continues with Eivind Mo's Tidlege innspelingar
This recording presents the influential Hardanger fiddler Eivind Mo (1904-1995) who hailed from the culturally rich region of Telemark. Mo grew up in a family with strong interest in culture and particularly the rich Norwegian folk music tradition. Over the years Mo built up a substantial repertoire of traditional dances and solo Hardanger fiddle pieces, a repertoire that is preserved on this disc. Mo’s playing is characterized by poetic, suggestive strength and a bright tone. The tunes are short with few repetitions, but with an intense living presence as long as the tunes lasts. He phrases in a way that creates syncopated asymmetries while the presentation keeps its strong forward drive. Eivind Mo left a lasting legacy that is preserved in an exemplary fashion on an album that should reach out to both new and veteran folk music connoisseurs at home and abroad.
