This weekend saw the young and vibrant jazz trio SOLID! winning the Spanish XXVII Festival Internacional De Jazz in Getxo.
SOLID!, which consists of Steinar Sønk Nickelsen on organ, Bjørn Vidar Solli on guitars and drummer Truls Rønning, won this weekend the international jazz competition at the XXVII Festival Internacional De Jazz in Getxo. Four bands from Poland, Hungary, Finland and Norway were qualified for the Spanish finals, and in the end it was the energetic trio from Norway that took home the prestigious awards.
In addition to winning the main competition, drummer Truls Rønning was also awarded the “Best Soloist” awards and Bjørn Vidar Solli won the audience’s awards for best soloist.
Last year saw the collective being awarded the Young Jazz Musicians of 2002 at the Molde International Festival.
