Ĝivind Westby - Biography
Born in Oslo in 1947. Well known Norwegian musician, conductor, arranger and composer. He studied trombone with Paul Kristiansen in Oslo and has been member of several norwegian bands and orchestras: The Big Band of the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation, The Orchestra of the Norwegian National Opera and the Norwegian Broadcasting Orchestra. AS a conductor he has had several engagements both in Norway and abroad.
As a composer and arranger he is selftaught. He has received the prize "Work of the Year" four times from NOPA - the Norwegian society for composers of popular and light music. His works occur quite often on the Norwegian radio. As an arranger he is known for his capability to write in all kinds of styles and for various settings, such as choir, string quartet, wind ensemble, sympohny orchestra, bands, big band etc. His original compositions range over the same broad groups of instruments.
