New tasks for MIC
The upcoming Musikmesse 2003 in Frankfurt is a massive gathering for instrument manufacturers, sheet-music publishers, software innovators and a plethora of hardware producers of all kinds. Adding to an expanding set of tasks and responsibilities, MIC acts as the co-ordinator of the Norwegian presence at this giant fair.
Frankfurt frenzy
The upcoming Musikmesse in Frankfurt runs from March 5 to 9 and is now in its 23rd consecutive year. The ProLight + Sound fair runs parallel to the Musikmesse and together they make up for a vital meeting and trade forum for the music industry. At last year’s fair the 3600 exhibitors from 44 countries drew more than 176 000 visitors making it one of the biggest and most important events for the music industry. The Musikmesse and ProLight + Sound caters primarily to music instrument and accessory manufacturers, sheet-music publishers as well as the lighting, sound and stage & event sector. The multitudes of exhibitors represent a wildly varied spectrum of products - from the tiniest piccolo flutes to the most giant of PA-systems available.
Norway is primarily represented by the sheet-music publisher sector: Norsk Musikforlag, Musikk-Husets Forlag, Lyche Musikkforlag, Cantando and newcomer Norsk Noteservice. The Norwegian delegation is co-ordinated by Head of MIC’s Information Department, Hilde Holbæk-Hanssen. You’ll find the Norwegian delegation at the joint Norwegian/Swedish stand that is titled Scandinavian Music and is located in Hall 3.1 stand A 73.
New tasks
The responsibility for the Norwegian delegation to the Musikmesse is just one of many tasks that MIC assumes. As from January 1. 2003 MIC has taken charge of the administration of the financial support scheme for Norwegian professional music projects abroad. Up until January 2003 this scheme was administered by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but the administrative responsibility was delegated to MIC in accordance with the MoF’s chosen strategy of close co-operation with the various fields resource centres. The main purpose for the support scheme is to allocate financial travel support for Norwegian bands, performers and artists touring and performing abroad. Support is given to touring activities, one-off concerts or appearances at festivals and the support scheme is open for all genres.
