South By Southwest 2005 - March 16 - 20
No less than seven strong Norwegian bands are set to play at North America's most important music industry forum - South by Southwest in Austin, Texas. Bonk, Gisli, Kings of Convenience, Low Frequency in Stereo, Silver and Surferosa make up the Norwegian SXSW 2005 roster, thus ensuring that the Austin audience will get their annual dose of Scandinavia's finest.
SXSW is a major festival, showcasing forum and tradeshow for the North American (and to a growing extent also the international) music industry. From March 16 to 20 more than 15 000 participants gather in Texas for conferences, panel discussions, tradeshow marketing, networking and to see bands live at Austin's club stages.
Norway will be present with seven strong acts: Bonk, Gisli, Kings of Convenience, Low Frequency in Stereo, Silver and Surferosa. The list is preliminary and additional acts could still be added to the Norwegian SXSW roster.
There will be an event dedicated to Scandinavian acts with designated ‘Nordic Nights’ showcases at The Drink On 6th in Austin. The Low Frequency in Stereo will play the Nordic night on 17th of March while Surferosa will play the same venue the following day.
Since its birth in 1987, South by Southwest has grown both in size and status and is now the North American music industry's most important forum. SXSW 2005 will also see a Scandinavian initiative with a joint stand and showcases. Music Export Norway is the co-ordinator for the Norwegian participation that is the strongest ever.
SXSW showcases hundreds of musical acts from around the globe on fifty stages in downtown Austin. By day, conference registrants do business in the SXSW Trade Show in the Austin Convention Center and partake of a full agenda of informative, provocative panel discussions featuring hundreds of speakers of international stature. The nineteenth annual SXSW Music And Media Conference and festival will take place March 16 - 20, 2005
Over 1200 acts showcased last year before more than 8000 registrants from all over the world. Pop, jazz, country, blues, reggae, hip hop, electronica - every imaginable style of music, from nearly every continent - is represented each night at over 50 of Austin's premier stages, many within walking distance of one another. By day, the music industry's most accomplished and creative personalities collaborated, argued, and shared their experiences in dozens of panels, workshops, interviews, and meetings.
