Vilde Frang wins Classic Brit Award

Violinist Vilde Frang receives the Newcomer Award at the Classic BRITs.

This week saw violinist Vilde Frang receiving the Newcomer Award at the Classic BRITs 2011. The 24-year-old Vilde was up against two other young artists, Alice Sara Ott and Miloš.

Said an overwhelmed Frang as she collected her prestigious award: “It is such a privilege to receive this wonderful award. And if possible, I’d like to send a big hug upstairs to Sibelius and Prokofiev!”

In the last year, Vilde has toured practically non-stop around Europe, was named EMI Classics’ Young Artist of the Year 2010 and her debut recording of Sibelius and Prokofiev violin concertos was named Best Classical Release at the Spellemannspris – the Norwegian equivalent to the Grammy Awards.

Listento.no met up with Vilde Frang back in 2009 – read the still relevant interview here.
