In support of their much anticipated upcoming album ‘In Sorte Diaboli’, Norway’s black-metal flagship Dimmu Borgir head out on an extensive US and Canadian tour in late April.
Following the success of their latest album ‘Death Cult Armageddon’ which performed well on domestic sales charts as well as Billboard’s Hot 100 charts, the upcoming release of Dimmu Borgir’s new album ‘In Sorte Diaboli’ is met with much anticipation.
One of Dimmu Borgir’s core markets is North America, and in order to cater to their rapidly growing US and Canadian audiences, the Norwegian black metallers are heading on an extensive tour of the region in April and May.
An extensive European tour has been confirmed this September, October and November.
Dimmu Borgir’s latest video, The Serpentine Offering (directed by Patric Ullaeus) can be viewed here.
After releasing an early 7 EP entitled Inn I Evighetens Morke in 1994, the band recorded their now-classic debut full-length, For All Tid, to be released later that same year. Several years following they released one of the most essential albums in Black Metal history, Stormblast, which instantaneously made them the hottest Black Metal sensation of the time. Dimmu Borgir took a significant step towards attaining the distinguishing sound they are notorious for presently: mature song writing, tempo variances, fervent classical influences and one of the most acclaimed Black Metal sounds in existence. Stormblast displayed an escalation in speed, yet maintained the harmonious melody and overpowering atmosphere throughout.
After Stormblast, Dimmu Borgir released the Devils Path MCD prior to recording their next commanding masterpiece, Enthrone Darkness Triumphant, which is an engaging, compelling and poignant recording, proficiently produced by Peter Tagtgren (Hypocrisy) at Abyss Studios (Immortal, Destruction, Children Of Bodom) and released in 1997. Enthrone Darkness Triumphant, their Nuclear Blast debut, marked their significant international breakthrough achieving chart entries all over the world and playing the massive European music festivals such as Dynamo Open Air and Wacken Open Air.
Abruptly following their world tour for Enthroned Darkness Triumphant, Dimmu Borgir started recording a MCD, Godless Savage Garden, to hold fans over while waiting for the next full-length, Spiritual Black Dimensions to be unleashed. Taking record stores by storm and proving yet again that Dimmu Borgir are the kings of the dark throne, Spiritual Black Dimensions transformed the face of Black Metal.
With a new-formed line-up, consisting of Shagrath (vocals), Silenoz (guitar), Vortex (bass & vocals), Galder (guitar), Mustis (keyboard) and Nick Barker (drums), Dimmu Borgir entered Swedens Fredman Studio in Fall 2000 to record their highly anticipated album Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia. Once again the band created a stunning success in uncompromising music with exceptional atmospheric and audibly malevolent songs. Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia was not just another Dimmu Borgir by any means it possesses its own sinister emotions and thrilling creativity that only a band as experienced as Dimmu Borgir can capture leaving all current top tiered Black Metal bands flailing powerlessly in their wake. To this day Dimmu Borgir have only persisted to expand with each subsequent release. And Death Cult Armageddon proved to be no different taking that superior level and going one step further selling over 100,000 records in North America alone! There is a remarkably dark feeling about the whole album, which captures every metallic soul. Dimmu Borgir have set standard for Black Metal and all must bow to the masters.
As an interlude between Death Cult Armageddon and the forthcoming album (which will be released in late 2006), Dimmu Borgir fully re-recorded Stormblåst for this occasion! With Peter Tagtgren (Hypocrisy) back at the helm as producer and MAYHEMs Hellhammer on drums.
Dimmu Borgir’s ‘In Sorte Diaboli’ is scheduled for its US release through Nuclear Blast on April 24th. The German, Be-Ne-Lux and Polish release dates are April 27th while the UK launch comes on April 30th.
