Northern Lights vol.1: Aase Nordmo Løvberg
MIC’s Listen to Norway series continues with the first release in Simax’ Northern Lights series beginning with a portrait of opera icon Aase Nordmo Løvberg.
Aase Nordmo Løvberg was one of post-war Norway’s greatest voices. Discovered in the early forties, she soon made a name for herself and entered a career that would take her to a large and welcoming international audience. During her active career she performed at the Stockholm Opera for years and also made acclaimed performances at Bayreuth and the Metropolitan Opera in NYC. Some of the stars she worked with included Sweden’s Jussi Björling, Herbert von Karajan and Paul Hindemith. The repertoire on this Northern Lights compilation represents recordings made from virtually her entire singing career, from 1949, the year after she made her debut, until 1977, when she was the soloist in the magnificent Vier letzte Lieder by Strauss. Here we can hear the broad dramatic scope, the tenderness, the sensitivity and the intensity of her presence, the very special timbre that has touched so many listeners – in short, the sound of a long and eventful life as a hailed and admired singer.
