Brit Awards nomination for Röyksopp

As the only Scandinavian act, Norwegian electronica duo Röyksopp are nominated for the prestigious Brit Awards.

Röyksopp

A total of 76 artists and bands are nominated in 15 categories. The lads from Tromsø are nominated in the Best International Group category, alongside such major acts as Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The White Stripes and Nickelback.

The winners of the category will be official on the night of the showday, February 20. The Brit Awards show will be aired on ITV.

Röyksopp is the only Scandinavian act to be nominated this year. Their Melody A.M. album has proved to be one of Norway’s biggest international successes since the A-Ha heyday and the duo is now busy touring in support of their releases and producing remixes for some of the industry’s biggest names.

The vibrant duo has garnered several prestigious awards in the wake of their Melody A.M. success, the most publicised being winning the Video of The Year category at the MTV Music Awards. Melody A.M. was also voted no. 3 at the Album of the Year category of BBC Music’s 2002 roundup.

However, the hectic touring and promotion has taken its toll on the Tromsø/Bergen duo. The duo was in late December awarded their hometown Tromsø’s awards for remarkable achievement, and at the press conference Svein Berge and Torbjørn Brundtland expressed that touring and promotion had drained energy from them. The two expressed that they wished for more time to compose and produce new tracks. For the time being, promotion activities have prevented the duo from working on new tunes for the follow up to Melody A.M. The duo is expected to scale back on touring and remix work as the year progresses, and hopefully Berge and Brundtland will be able to focus on their second album.
