MIC's Listen to Norway series continues with Mental Overdrive's '083'
Electronica pioneer Per Martinsen aka Mental Overdrive’s ‘083’ recalls the heyday of the techno scene with its minimalist grooves and early 90s aesthetics. Since his early days at the seminal R&S Records in the late 80s/early 90s Martinsen has been one of the true pioneers and innovators in Norwegian electronic music. Martinsen himself describes the album as an ‘electronic roots’ record – a trip back to days when Kraftwerk, New Order/Joy Division, the Detroit house scene and WARP’s bleep/headphone stuff was the soundtrack of choice. On ‘083’ (which refers to the old directional phone number for Martinsen’s city of birth, Tromsø) Mental Overdrive presents a set of classic and timeless techno/electronica tracks that are both nostalgic and futuristic at the same time. Bring out the glow sticks and dance, techno is back!
