MICs Listen to Norway series continues with Norwegian Baroque Orchestra and Svein Tindberg: Markus-Pasjonen
With “Markus-pasjonen” The Norwegian Baroque Orchestra and actor Svein Tindberg presents one of the very first recordings of Johannes Sebastian Bach’s recently rediscovered work the St. Mark Passion. The featured work is the tale of sufferings as written in the Gospel according to St. Mark – framed by Bach’s grand and hitherto unknown work. This is one of three Bach passions, but the only one that was initially lost after Bach’s death. Years of research and reconstruction work restored the master’s work, and the moving result is now finally available on disc. The Norwegian Baroque Orchestra is the country’s central early music ensemble, and with able assistance from actor Svein Tindberg the material is brought to life through spirited renditions and emotional reciting. The end result is truly unique and compulsory listening for any Bach devotee.
