London focus for Jazzland
Renowned label Jazzland brings its finest talent to London in mid-March.
Renowned jazz/electronica label Jazzland showcases two of its main acts Beady Belle and Eivind Aarset´s Electronique Noire band at London’s Cargo club on March 8.
Jazzland is a widely respected Norwegian indie label focussing on jazz in various (and often electronic) forms and shapes. Jazzland is perhaps best known internationally for Bugge Wesseltoft’s releases and acclaimed tours. Wesseltoft is also the label’s founder and a driving force for the growing label and its diverse roster.
The March 8 showcase at London’s Cargo focuses on two acts: Beady Belle and Eivind Aarset´s Electronique Noire band. Eivind Aarset, who’s also a guitarist in Nils Petter Molvær’s live-band, has released two acclaimed albums: Electronique Noire and Light Extracts. Beady Belle, which consists of charismatic vocalist Beate Slettevoll Lech and significant other and acclaimed bassist Marius Reksjø, has so far released one album; Home (2001). The international attention given to Beady Belle has been strong, and the anticipation for the upcoming album is growing.

Jazzland has a number of interesting releases coming up. The first one has hit the record stores shelves all over the world: Jazzland Tracks – a compilation of Jazzland tracks from the beginning in 1996 up to 2000.
Next up is percussionist Terje Isungset’s Iceman Is. This is a truly unique recording in that all of the featured instruments are made of ice! Percussive instruments made up of frozen water – now that’s got to be pretty unique!
A new more conventional club/electronica album from new act On/Off is the next release on the schedule. March 24 is the release date for this project which is made up of Nils Petter Molvær tour-DJ and producer Raymond Pellicer in companionship with perhaps Norway’s most respected DJ Pål ”Strangefruit” Nyhus.
Beady Belle will be ready with a follow up to their acclaimed 2001 album Home on April 7.
A double-CD live-recording with Bugge Wesseltoft is scheduled for release on May 5. The recording is made up of live-recordings from 1999 to 2002 and gives the listeners a chance to capture that unique live-energy produced by Wesseltoft’s New Conceptions of Jazz band.
