Busy European festival summer
Some of Norway’s biggest acts, Turbonegro, Röyksopp and Kaizers Orchestra are in for a busy summer with festival appearances all over Europe.

The two contrasting acts, deathpunkers Turbonegro and electronica purveyors Röyksopp are for the moment the most popular Norwegian international acts. Judging by the two bands touring itineraries, things are not going to slow down in the coming months. Together with other hard-working acts such as Kaizers Orchestra, St. Thomas and Jaga Jazzist, Röyksopp and Turbonegro contribute to a strong Norwegian presence at this year’s European summer festivals.
Turbonegro is set to build upon the impact of their recently released Scandinavian Leather album which has garnered rave reviews domestically as well as internationally. In addition to Scandinavia’s biggest festival Roskilde, Turbonegro are also scheduled to play such influential and important events as Southside and Hurricane festivals in Germany, Hultsfred in Sweden, Open Air in Switzerland and festivals T in The Park, Reading and Leeds in UK. Turbonegro’s domestic touring includes festivals Quart and Øya as well as massive hall-tour covering Norway’s biggest cities.
Tromsø/Bergen duo Röyksopp will have little time off this summer. The charismatic and hyper-active Svein Berge and Thorbjørn Brundtland are set to play such vital festivals as Homelands, T In The Park and Witness in the UK, Pink Pop and Paradiso in Holland, Hurricane and Southside in Germany and perhaps the most interesting of them all; the Field Day Festival in Long Island which Röyksopp headline alongside Radiohead, Blur, Beck and Beastie Boys. Röyksopp are also set to headline Norwegian festivals Øya and Quart. Röyksopp are also rumoured to play the Glastonbury festival, but this has not been confirmed yet.
Kaizers Orchestra is another unique act set for some European action. Despite a slight language barrier, the band sings in a thick west-Norwegian dialect, Kaizers are subjected to a growing international attention. Appearances at last year’s Roskilde and this year’s Eurosonic festival in Holland boosted the bands international following and spawned keen interest from European promoters. The band, which themselves never expected to gain attention from abroad, is now set to play such central events as festivals Rock Am Ring, Rock Im Park, Haldern Open Air and Rheinkultur in Germany, Lowlands in Holland and Roskilde in Denmark. However, the most prestigious gig is not yet confirmed: it is rumoured that Kaizers Orchestra will join Röyksopp at Glastonbury’s roster. This has not been confirmed as long as the official Glastonbury programme is yet to be released.
Other acts that are set for festival appearances include St. Thomas, Madrugada, Jaga Jazzist and more. MIC will return with more dates as the shows are confirmed.
