MIC's Listen to Norway series continues with Flukt's 'Drufiacc'
On the cover of trio Flukt’s Drufiacc, the ensemble warns that “drums, fiddle and accordion may cause severe addiction”. Utilising the stripped-down combinations of fiddle, Hardanger fiddle, accordion and percussion to the full extent, Flukt ramble their way through the ensemble’s lively numbers. Through energetic interplay and new approach to accompaniment, Flukt manage to add an infectious bounce to traditional tunes. The repertoire is a mix of original and traditional tunes containing touches of classical music and event a hint of blues. The trio’s name translates as “soaring” – a fitting title for an ensemble that manages to free their tunes from the restraints of tradition, genre and instrumentation to produce vibrant folk music that’s utterly alive
