Bergen’s finest new-rave outfit, Datarock launches a global campaign in support of their successful album.

Bergen’s tracksuit clad indierave outfit Datarock are set to spend the next few months on the road as they launch an extensive European and North American in May. Datarock will hit the road on the 5th of May and tour more or less continuously until late July visiting the UK, US, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Slovakia, Spain and their native Norway along the way.
Hailing from the much hyped Tellč-scene in Bergen, Datarock are a fine example of the willingness to explore and develop integral forms of expression that characterises the bands that have emerged from the capital of Western Norway (think Röyksopp and Kings of Convenience here). High profiled gigs at the Sonār Festival in Barcelona and Norway’s biggest festival, Quart, have earned them a reputation as a live act out of the ordinary. Following the Sonār Festival appearance, Guardian (UK) singled out the act as one of the event’s true highlights.
Datarock’s unique and deft mix of lo-fi pop, casio, disco, hardcore and rock has been featured on several successful international compilations, earning the band a loyal following outside of their native Norway.
“Our first musical love was thrash metal and punk guitars,” says the Ketil Mosnes and Fredrik Saroea, “but we discovered that electronic music was so much more fun. Still, love for monstrous guitars is not something that goes away, so we just figured we’d combine the two and make datrock.” Simple as that…
Britain’s NME don’t hesitate to call Datarock “Pop music’s most aggressive sect since the Polyphonic Spree. In the linguistic vein of that publication the phrase entails pure praise. And the conclusion reads: “Doubting Datarock is the future of indie dance? You're taking the piss, right?"
Datarock’s self-titled debut album will see its North American release through Nettwerk on the 12th of June.
On another note, Coca Cola Corp. has chosen Datarock’s infectious track Fa, Fa, Fa as the main track for an upcoming major advert campaign set to hit media outlets later this year. Says Datarock vocalist Fredrik Saroea to Norwegian daily VG: ‘We don’t know exactly when the campaign will kick off but the contracts have been signed and we’ve received the fee so the only thing that could stop the whole thing now would be sabotage.’
Plans are also being laid for a possible Datarock show on MTV. Says Saroea: ‘(Following our recent NYC gig) we managed to cram in two long meetings with MTV in New York, who already have prepared a pilot to a possible future MTV-series starring Datarock. We met so much enthusiasm over there that we’re quite confident that it will happen.’
